Weekly Update

WOW!  Nearly half of all fifth graders made a 100% on last week's vocabulary quiz!  Students who did not make a 100% will be having a bit of extra vocabulary practice for homework this week to help them understand the terms a bit better.

Extra Credit project went home last week.  It's worth up to 10 extra points in the test category.  I was AMAZED by how quickly some students did completed this!  Reminder that it is due by the end of the month (Jan. 31st).  I am asking for students to submit a picture of their project as well.  This can be sent via Class Dojo, email, or printed and attached to the paper.

THIS WEEK:

  • Finishing up our unit on Energy expect a test Friday.
  • Vocabulary quiz Friday (even students who made 100% on last week's quiz)
  • Wrapping up unit on Early Explorers.  Students who did not do well on the online quizzes were given paper copies to help bring up their score.

In Science we are learning about energy
Students will:

  • investigate and describe some basic forms of energy (including light, heat, sound, electrical, chemical and mechanical)
  • investigate and explain that energy has the ability to cause motion or create change
  • investigate and explain that electrical energy can be transformed into heat, light, and sound energy as well as the energy of motion
  • investigate and explain that an electrically charged object can attract an uncharged object and can either attract or repel another charged object without any contact between objects
  • investigate and illustrate that the flow of electricity requires a closed circuit
  • identify and classify materials that conduct electricity and materials that do not
