We are wrapping up Force and Motion this week
Friday 3/2 Vocabulary quiz and District Assessment
We are also wrapping up Jamestown. Students have read about it in multiple sources and will be taking the Studies Weekly test this week.

Update
We have been working HARD to understand forces.
Students have had LOTS of hands on practice going through experiments to understand how forces work.
Aiming for a vocabulary quiz next week. List of words is at the end of the post.
Social Studies:
We have started Week 9 of Studies Weekly about Jamestown. Students have been given a paper copy of the lesson so they can look over it at home.
Additional Resources to help understanding: (student login required)
Vocabulary _ Force and Motion
- Force—A push or a pull that one object exerts on another object with or without direct contact (e.g., friction, gravity). Causes a change in speed or direction.
- Push or Pull:
- Balanced forces—forces that are equal in size but opposite in direction.
- Unbalanced forces—forces that are unequal in size and may or may not be opposite in direction.
- Types of Force:
- Buoyant force -the upward force exerted on an object by water.
- Gravitational force - the pull of all objects in the universe on one another.
- Magnetic force - the force produced by a magnet.
- Friction—a force that opposes motion through direct contact
- Measurement of Force
- Net force - the combination of all the forces acting on an object.
- Newton – (N) the unit of measuring force
- Weight—a measure of the force of gravity on an object.
- Motion – the change in position of an object over time with respect to a reference point.
- Position - the location of an object in space.
- Acceleration – the rate at which velocity changes
- Speed—the distance traveled by an object in a given amount of time. Measured in distance per time, such as miles per hour (mph)
- Inertia - the property of matter that keeps it at rest or moving in a straight line.
- Velocity – the speed of a object in a particular direction

Week of 2/12
Last week we wrapped up Energy and Electricity
Students did an AMAZING job on the District Assessment! Our average score was a 75% which was 5.1 points above the District Average!
28% of students scored an A!
Last week students learned about the Columbian Exchange in Social Studies. This week we will be wrapping that up before heading into learning about Jamestown.
Columbian Exchange Brain Pop Video
In science we will begin our unit on Force and Motion. The first set of vocabulary words on force are here. Motion words are here.
Over the next few week students will:

In science we will begin our unit on Force and Motion. The first set of vocabulary words on force are here. Motion words are here.
Over the next few week students will:
- Identify familiar forces that cause objects to move, such as pushes or pulls, including gravity acting on falling objects.
- Investigate and describe that the greater the force applied to it, the greater the change in motion of a given object.
- Investigate and describe that the more mass an object has, the less effect a given force will have on the object's motion.
- Define a problem, use appropriate reference materials to support scientific understanding, plan and carry out scientific investigations of various types such as: systematic observations, experiments requiring the identification of variables collecting and organizing data, interpreting data in charts, tables, and graphics, analyze information, make predictions, and defend conclusions
- Recognize and explain that when scientific investigations are carried out, the evidence produced by those investigations should be replicable by others.

Weekly Update
Sorry for the delayed update....
We will be having a vocabulary quiz and a unit test (Energy/Electricity) Wednesday February 7th.
Electricity Words
In Social Studies we are still learning about early explorers.
